Keep Your Financial Information Protected

You work hard for your money, so it makes sense you want to keep your financial information and bank accounts as secure as possible. At BrioDirect, we take protecting your information and your money seriously. That’s why we provide you with the latest technology and the most advanced security features, including biometric credentials like TouchID and FaceID, multifactor authentication, and more.

Still, there are additional actions you can take to further protect yourself and your bank accounts from scams and cybercriminals. To help, we’ve put together steps you can take to help ensure the highest levels of protection for your personal financial information.

Stay alert with account alerts

Setting up account alerts is a simple way to monitor account activity. At BrioDirect, you can easily set up alerts on your accounts with the BrioDirect mobile app.

With the BrioDirect mobile app, you can set notifications for large purchases, low balances, ATM transactions, transfers, and deposits. Account alerts can be sent via text message, email, and push notifications on your mobile devices. Even if you’re on top of your spending habits, these alerts can help you monitor your accounts and identify fraud quickly.

Create strong, unique passwords

It’s important to set up and use unique passwords to help protect your account from a security breach. If you use the same credentials across multiple sites, you risk giving hackers access to other accounts if your information is leaked in a breach.

To keep your accounts secured, create different usernames and passwords for each account you have. Combine capital and lowercase letters with numbers and symbols to create a strong passcode. Since passwords should be hard to guess, you should avoid obvious ones like “Password123” and never use your first and last name.

Review your credit report three times per year

Monitoring your credit report can help you spot identity theft early. The US government requires each of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) to provide you with a free copy of your credit report once per year. You can request a copy of your free credit report online.

Request one report per bureau every four months, and you’ll be able to monitor your credit report year-round. If you see suspicious activity on your credit report, alert your primary financial institutions and create a recovery plan online with the Federal Trade Commission.

Don’t respond to requests for personal information

Never share sensitive information with someone who is contacting you, even if they claim to be from your bank or the IRS. These are almost always phishing attempts or a scenario where criminals try to obtain personal and financial information through calls, texts, and emails.

Financial institutions—including BrioDirect—and government agencies will never contact you to request personal information like account numbers, birth dates, social security numbers, PINs, and passwords—so never share this information with strangers contacting you directly.

Check the security of your devices and your connections

Online shopping and free Wi-Fi are incredibly convenient, but without precautions, they can pose potential risks. Here are some tips to keep your finances secure when you are on the go and shopping online:

  • Avoid using free, public Wi-Fi to complete financial transactions
  • When shopping online, make sure the site is security enabled—look for URLs with https:// to keep information secure
  • Use antivirus and antimalware software on your computers, tablets, and smartphones
  • Stay current with updates to your devices—updates frequently contain security enhancements
  • Password-protect your home’s internet connection
